THEATRE PICTURES
Rachel’s work at the Bristol Old Vic was an opportunity, fitted in around other work, which began with Othello in 1989. She was able to watch the making of theatre, thanks to the director Paul Unwin, which culminated in a large exhibition at the National Theatre in 1991.
Most recently she was back, thanks to director Tom Morris, and was drawing just the early rehearsals of King Lear, the technical and dress rehearsals for The Rivals and most recently the technical and dress rehearsals for The Grinning Man. No-one poses for these drawings and Rachel must make the most of the changing scenes in front of her.
Rachel has long been fascinated by the challenge of capturing people at work and was commissioned, after her earliest work at Bristol Old Vic, to draw the BBC’s Natural History Unit and work behind the scenes at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. She has painted and drawn the work of Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory as well as that of countless professional musicians. Nine of her works are in Bristol Museum’s collections and four are in Bristol University’s Theatre Collection.
Giclée conservation grade prints are available for all of these images and some of the originals are also available. Please Contact the Artist for further information.
